Flood Insurance Policies for Texas

What Is Flood Insurance, and How do I get Flood Insurance in Texas?

Flood insurance can help you in recovering your material possessions after an event happens. We have all seen the devastation that can happen after a flood, better to consider the options, cost, & coverage levels ahead so you can make an informed decision as to whether this type of policy is right for you. Flood Insurance is not required in all circumstances. But it would be good to know if such an event happens you can get compensation for you r losses, up to the coverage limits in your policy.  A flood is defined as “rising water.” We all know that Houston and surrounding areas are low coastal plains and have a history of flooding. Much work has been done by the cities and counties to control and contain flooding. But it still happens. Sometimes in just a localized area, and sometimes, perhaps due to a tropical storm or hurricane a much larger area. Even if the water comes from a hurricane, it will not be covered by homeowners insurance or Hurricane Insurance if it rises into your home. For water damage to be covered under the homeowners policy, the water must have entered as a result of a covered peril. Flood, or “rising water” is not a covered peril on the homeowners policy.

Although it may not seem like much, a few inches of water can cause major damage and result in hundreds to thousands of dollars in repairs and restoration costs. Although many people think home insurance covers the damages caused by floods, home insurance does not cover the damages caused by floods.. Flood insurance is important if you plan on keeping your home safe and your possessions secure.
